Music Theory for the Young Child - Half Note

Downloadable in pdf format for beginning music students aged 4 to 10

Half Note Music Theory Worksheet for the Young Child

This free printable music theory worksheet teaches young students what a half note is and how to draw half notes with stems pointing up and down.  A half note receives 2 counts and look like a quarter note with the circle not filled in.  This has images of apples and oranges and is recommended for early childhood beginners or young students who are just starting out on their music instrument.

101 Rhythm Instrument Activities: for Young Children

Alternatively, if you wish to purchase books to help teach rhythm, I recommend the following book to introduce rhythm to young children.  The activities in this book bring music into the classroom and offer ways for children to participate in the music experience, using rhythm sticks, sand blocks, bells, shakers, and more. Children make the sound of the ocean waves using shakers, pretend to be a train using sand blocks, create a rainstorm with rhythm sticks and perform circus tricks with jingle bells. Plus, they learn to play the instruments along with their favorite songs.

101 Rhythm Instrument Activities is perfect for parents, early childhood teachers and music teachers who work with toddlers through age six.  Go to 101 Rhythm Instrument Activities: for Young Children.

The instructions read: A half note receives two counts.  Practice drawing half notes with stems pointing up and stems pointing down.
