<p>This free printable music theory&nbsp;<span id="IL_AD2" class="IL_AD">worksheet</span>&nbsp;teaches how to draw eighth notes with a flag or a beam.&nbsp; When written by itself, an eighth note looks like a quarter note with a  flag attached to it.&nbsp; If the stem is up, the flag comes down on the  right side of the note.&nbsp; If the stem is down, the flag comes up from the  right side of the note.&nbsp; If two or more eight notes appear in a row, the eighth notes are  connected with a horizontal line on top or bottom called a beam.</p>
<p>An eighth note has a value of half of a beat.&nbsp; That means two eighth  notes equal one quarter note, or one beat.&nbsp; When writing the counts, use  a plus sign (+) for eighth notes.</p>

<p>This music theory worksheet helps teach basic rhythm concepts.&nbsp; It   introduces the quarter note, half note, and whole note and the 4/4 time   signature.&nbsp; The duration of musical sounds is indicated by different  types of notes. These indicate how long or short to hold the note.&nbsp;  Quarter note equals 1 beat.&nbsp; Half note equals 2 beats.&nbsp; Whole note  equals 4 beats.&nbsp; Time signatures are placed at the beginning of a piece  of music.&nbsp; They are made up of two numbers.&nbsp; The top number shows the  number of beats per measure.&nbsp; The bottom number shows what kind of note  will get one beat.</p>
